SV Werder Bremen are mourning the death of former player Uwe Bracht, who passed away at the age of 63 on Friday. Bracht wore the Green-White jersey for more than twelve years.
“The news of Uwe Bracht’s death has moved us all deeply. He belonged to the group of players who came from our youth team and made the jump into the Bundesliga. In the 1982/83 season, he blossomed under coach Otto Rehhagel and was voted the best player of the second half of the season. A persistent Achilles tendon injury ultimately led to a career full of hope ending early,” said Werder president and chief executive Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald.
In 1970, Uwe Bracht moved from the ATS Buntentor's youth team to SV Werder, where he signed a professional contract shortly after moving. In 1981, he gained promotion with SVW to the Bundesliga and two years later, he celebrated finishing second in the top flight.
Everyone from SV Werder Bremen offers their deepest condolences to Uwe’s family and friends in this difficult time.
