No place like home

Debutant: A dream came true for Johannes Eggestein at the weekend when the 19-year-old played his first competitive match for SV Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. “I’m delighted to have made my debut for the first team, even if it blemished by was a loss,” explained the attacker after the final whistle, who has played for the Green-Whites since 2013. The Hannover-born forward was substituted on for...

"We are on the right track"

For a long time it looked like Werder would be able to take a well-fought point against Bayern: The Green-Whites fought for every yard, rarely gave away the ball cheaply and pushed the record champions all the way. However a double from Robert Lewandowski snuffed out the hope of  the first point of the season in the space of two minutes. “I am very disappointed with the result,” Ludwig...

2-0 loss at home to Bayern

The upset was not to be, and Werder Bremen have to settle for a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of reigning champions FC Bayern. Lewandowski proved to be the difference thanks to his double in the space of three minutes, which crushed the hopes of a Werder side who had been very resilient until then.

We have to give it everything

Werder will start their home 2017/18 Bundesliga campaign with a bang: The Weser-Stadion will play host to record champions Bayern Munich on Saturday (15:30 CEST). This is our chance

Ludwig Augustinsson knows what it feels like to beat the favourites. In June, Werder’s new left-back helped the Swedish national team to a 2-1 victory over France. “In football, you’ve always got a chance of winning. There’s always a possibility in every match you play, irrespective of how much better the opponent is,” Augustinsson said in his chat with WERDER.DE ahead of the clash with Bayern. If...

"There are many positives to take from the game"

For a long time it looked like the Green-Whites could take something from their season opener  away from home against Hoffenheim. Until the 84th minute, the Werder defence held strong under intense pressure from the hosts. “To lose to a goal like that, is obviously not nice at all”, Florian Kainz said after the final whistle. The Austrian had a big chance to put Werder into the lead in the first...

"It helps me stay alert"

Football is often a game of mentality. Matches are won and lost in your head. These may be typical phrases straight from the football textbook, but they mean a lot more than just words on paper. Every player’s methods are different but at the end of the day, football is all in the head.

“We can’t sit back”

It goes without saying that the 2-2 draw in Frankfurt raises the question of whether it should be seen as a point won, or two points lost, on account of the fact that Werder went into the dressing room 2-0 up at half-time. Werder’s director of sport Frank Baumann admitted: “I’m torn. We should have won considering we had the lead, but we have to live with it now.” Manager Alexander Nouri on the...
