The 19-year-old landed in Bremen on Wednesday evening, before completing the obligatory medical on Thursday morning and finally putting pen to paper on a loan deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2019. And in the afternoon, he took part in his first training session with his new teammates. The Austria youth...

Once a youngster, now a leader

Philipp Bargfrede looks relaxed and in the zone. The 4-2 away defeat at Bayern still hurts, yet his full attention has already turned to the match this weekend. Anything but a home win will not do in his eyes. WERDER.DE caught up wiith Bargfrede to discuss what he expects from Hertha this weekend, and where he sees his career in the future.

The preparation is underway

Werder will kick off their preparations for Saturday’s home fixture against Hertha BSC with two training sessions on Wednesday. A brief moment of joy

Long awaited, yet short-lived: those few seconds will remain in Jerome Gondorf’s memory for a long time to come. Gondorf scored his first goal in a Werder jersey in his twelfth appearance for the club: “I saw the ball roll slowly towards the line and that Joshua Kimmich wasn’t going to get there. Of course I was over the moon!” This was the first time that Werder had the lead against Bayern since...

Good performance, but Werder come away with nothing

SV Werder Bremen will be praised for this performance but they unfortunately come away with nothing from the Allianz Arena. With Werder’s 4-2 loss to record champions FC Bayern München, they remain 16th in the Bundesliga. Werder started positively and deservedly took the lead through Jerome Gondorf (25’) but were pegged back just before the break as Thomas Müller equalised for the hosts (41’)....

Positive performance but a negative result

Werder went 1-0 up, went 2-1 down then levelled to make it 2-2 before Bayern scored two more to condemn the Green-Whites to defeat. Werder pushed the table-toppers the whole way but left empty-handed. Therefore the disappointment prevailed in the mixed zone at the Allianz Arena after the game or as Florian Kohfeldt said, “An afternoon without points can never be a good afternoon.”

Wagner: The Weser-Stadion still gives me goosebumps

For Sandro Wagner, his time at Werder feels like long ago. In those six years since he wore the Werder jersey, a lot has changed. The now 30-year-old striker has played for FC Kaiserlautern, Hertha, Darmstadt and Hoffenheim, gained experience in Bundesliga 2 and became a national player. Since the start of January he has been back at his boyhood club FC Bayern and on Sunday he will meet the team...

Intensive preparation

It will be a long week for the Werder first-team. Head coach Florain Kohfeldt must put these days to good use before the tough test away at table-topping Bayern. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the team will have two sessions, where they will put in the groundwork. As Kohfeldt revealed, “In the first part of the week, it’s all about us and how we want to play and then, from Friday, we will start to...

Quarter final schedule released

The quarter final of the DFB-Pokal between Werder and Bayer 04 Leverkusen will be played on Tuesday 6th February at 20:45 CET in the Leverkusener BayArena.  The upcoming match is a repeat of the draw two years ago, when the Green-Whites beat Leverkusen to take their place in the semi finals.

"We could’ve got the win today with a bit of luck"

Lots of counter-attacks, numerous goalscoring chances – and yet Werder couldn’t make the most of their second-half domination. SV Werder got a point against Hoffenheim after a much-improved second period but Werder were left thinking ‘what if’. “I am satisfied with the way we played after the break but I am not as happy with the result. We need the points,” Florian Kohfeldt underlined.

Spoils shared in the first Bundesliga game of 2018

SV Werder earned a 1-1 draw at home to 1899 Hoffenheim in the first Bundesliga game of 2018 after an impressive second-half display. The Green-Whites had to come from behind in front of 40,000 people at the Weserstadion to secure a point. TSG defender Benjamin Hübner headed in Serge Gnabry’s cross late in the first half (39’). The game was a lot more open after the break and after Theodor Gebre...

Here's to a Happy New Year

Werder fans all over the world will be hoping for a Happy New Year with the return of the Bundesliga this Saturday when the Green-Whites will host TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at 15:30 CET. Julian Nagelsmann’s squad is riddled with individual quality, that’s no secret, but on the back of seven points from the last three league games and a short yet productive winter break training camp in sunny Spain,...

"I will never forget that day"

SV Werder face 1899 Hoffenheim in the first Bundesliga game back after the winter break. On the books at Hoffenheim is Florian Grillitsch, who has played there since last summer when he made the move from the Green-Whites. WERDER.DE spoke to “Grillo” ahead of his visit to his former club about his best moment at Werder, the record from the first half of the season and the upcoming clash against...

Fin is feeling good!

It was a day to remember for the Green-Whites on Matchday 15, when SV Werder came away with a 2-1 away win and the three points against Dortmund who were the clear favourites, after a brilliant performance in the lion’s den that is the Signal Iduna Park. However a tackle, a pained expression and a serious injury proved how close happiness and suffering sit side by side. This is of course Fin...

Kohfeldt: "We’ve made the most of our time here"

On Monday afternoon, the one week training camp in Algorfa will draw to a close. So there’s one last chance to take in the sun before it’s back to the bitterly cold northwest of Germany for SV Werder Bremen. The flight will leave from Alicante airport at 16:50 local time and will take home a Green-White side that has made use of their time on the Costa Blanca effectively. “I think that we’ve made...

The tie against Leverkusen will be played on either the 6th or 7th February 2018.

Successful dress rehearsal

SV Werder enjoyed a convincing 4-0 victory in Sunday’s friendly against FC Twente. The Green-Whites, with the restart of Bundesliga action in sight, looked in tremendous form in the final practice match of the winter break. One goal from Florian Kainz and two from Max Kruse in the first half gave Werder a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break, then substitute Johannes Eggestein made it four with a...

Zlatko's Back

When Florian Kohfeldt speaks about his captain at the training camp in Algorfa, he practically starts rhapsodizing. But after a season so far hampered by many minor injuries, the coach is relieved to finally have Zlatko Junuzovic back where he wants him: on the pitch.
