“Simply world-class”

As Kohfeldt was making his way down towards the tunnel after 90 impressive minutes of football, he had to pause a moment as a young Werder fan with an ear-to-ear grin and beaming eyes caught his attention. “He’ll be back for sure,” said Florian after a short exchange with the youngster. This reflects how many felt after an enthralling game on the Weser as Werder held Dortmund to a draw to keep...

Pavlenka unstoppable! SVW draw with BVB

The dozen is complete. Werder remain unbeaten in the Weserstadion! Kohfeldt takes his tally to 12 consecutive games at home unbeaten. This time round however, it required an out-of-this-world performance by keeper Jiri Pavlenka to keep the Champions League-hopefuls at bay. The 1-1 draw to Dortmund was hard-earned but well-deserved. The Green-Whites had to fight back in front of a sold-out 42,100...

Same again Green-Whites

Neither side will want fear to dominate their play this weekend. Borussia Dortmund have historically disliked playing against the Green-Whites, losing on 41 occasions; the only team they have been more frequently beaten by is FC Bayern Munich. Out of the 49 meetings between the two sides in the Weserstadion, it has been the home team that have been victorious 31 times. The Weserstadion has been...

Something for summer

The news broke at the start of the week that club captain Zlatko Junuzovic will leave the club in summer and so the manager is starting to look at who will be the player to replace Zladdi as club captain. Head coach Kohfeldt stressed on Wednesday that he has already started to mull the problem of the Austrian’s replacement over, “I can say for sure that I have a few names in mind but I still need...

Lacking our recent hunger

No Green-White can be pleased with that performance today, nor the result, nor the fact that Werder are still not mathematically safe from relegation. Werder were not at the top of their game today, especially in the first half. “We didn’t bring enough urgency into the game and lots of little things didn’t fall into place,” said Florian Kohfeldt who cut a frustrated figure after the game. Werder’s...

Werder's safety put on hold

Werder's definitve safety will have to wait a week after a 2-0 defeat to Stuttgart in the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Christian Gentner's header put the hosts in front just 13 minutes into the match and Berkay Öczan got a sucker punch just minutes before the end as the Green-Whites chased the game. The gap to the relegation places remains seven points with now just three match days to go.

If not us then who?

There’s a first time for everything! VfB Stuttgart are undefeated at home under Tayfun Korkut and so SV Werder Bremen will be looking to build on the positive performance against Leipzig and dish out the hosts’ first home defeat of the season on Saturday at 15:30 CEST. Goals will no doubt be crucial to that task and Werder have made a habit of scoring in Stuttgart. The Green-Whites have scored 176...

"Proud of the way we played"

After a hard-fought 90 minutes, Werder extended their unbeaten run at home to ten matches following the 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig. "I told my team that we can be disappointed not to have won, because we were definitely capable of doing so," coach Florian Kohfeldt told his team at the end of the match. "I’m proud of the way we played."

Thrilling end but no winner

After two very different halves, SV Werder and RB Leipzig shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw on Sunday evening. Niklas Moisander’s second of the season gave the Green-Whites a deserved lead in the 28th minute, but the team were punished for not adding to their lead when Ademola Lookman equalised shortly after the break. Both sides had big chances to seal the win late on, but neither did enough to...

Werder's unbeaten run comes to an end

SV Werder lose 2-1 to Hannover 96. In a thrilling second half, Werder’s efforts just come up short, as Martin Harnik (17‘) and Felix Klaus (42‘) put the hosts out of reach in the first. Ishak Belfodil got one back for the Green-Whites (74‘) but despite a strong closing stage, Werder just couldn’t find an equaliser and so the run of five games unbeaten comes to an end.

“Not playing to our potential”

On Friday evening, the Green-Whites fought their way back into the game but it was too late in Hannover. Werder went to sleep in the first half as all the players agreed upon. Despite having a host of chances before the final whistle, SVW left the pitch empty-handed.

Battle of opposites

After winning the corresponding fixture at home, Werder now turn their focus to the away game against Hannover 96 on Friday, which starts at 20:30 CEST. The match kicks off matchday 29 and the differences between the two teams couldn’t be any greater. Werder will be full of confidence heading into the game having won all of their last three games against this Friday’s opponents. Hannover on the...

One suspension, one injury

Adapt and overcome: Niklas Moisander will not be in the starting XI to face Hannover on Friday for the first time in six matchdays. The Finn has been a staple in the Werder defence since recovering from his muscle strain in September, but will not be able to play against Hannover due to a yellow-card suspension. “We can deal with his absence as we have a strong defence, but we can’t replace his...

Hard-earned luck

2-1! Three points! Fourth home win in a row and 13 points from a possible 15! Werder have been seriously impressive in recent weeks and showed in the game against Frankfurt just how tough it is to pick up points in such a competitive league. Werder however had their fair share of luck but worked hard for 90 minutes to earn that luck.
