Werder’s 2005 In Review : October

Unstoppable. Even trailing at the Berlin Olympia Stadium wasn't enough to knock Werder out of their stride. Despite the absence of Miroslav Klose, the Green-Whites turned the tie with goals from Tim Borowski and Nelson Valdez. The end of the Bundesliga season was to be the beginning of a long international period. Most were battling for a World Cup 2006 place with the German players playing in Munich against Bayern as an official opening of the Allianz-Arena. Tim Borowski's goal saved the German national sides blushes before they went on to perform impressively in the Confed Cup and win the hearts of the fans.

The final games of the 2004/2005 season are ahead but nothing seems to want to go right for Werder. In Dortmund Werder attack one goal for 90 minutes and lose 1:0. Even Dortmund coach Bert van Marwijk admitted "Bremen were too good for us", the result was almost embarrassing.

Burdenski Hangs Up His Gloves Foe Good

Werder goalkeeping legend, Dieter Burdenski has decided to hang up his gloves for good and pass on his post as goalkeeper trainer at the end of the year. "It was a very difficult decision for me to make but with the World Cup year ahead I need to concentrate on my business", explained Budurski. Werder have already found a replacement for 'Budde', 39 year-old ex-Bundesliga keeper Michael Kraft.

90 minutes of top quality, top tempo football in the 83d northern derby finished in stalemate between Werder and HSV. The leagues best attack drew 1:1 (1:0) against the leagues top defence with Thomas Schaaf having to make a late change to his starting eleven, Petri Pasanen replacing Frank Fahrenhorst who had fallen foul to a stomach bug.
