Bremen break Borussia bug!

It would appear that Werder Bremen are capable of beating Borussia Dortmund after all! Following two defeats the Green-Whites finally put one over on BVB with a 2:0 (1:0) win in front of a crowd of 42,100 at the Weser Stadium.

Vranjes renews his contract

Werder Bremen midfielder Jurica Vranjes has signed a three year contract extension to keep him at the club until at least 30.06.2011. On Thursday evening, the Croatian international and general manager Klaus Allofs finalised the terms of the agreement.

Boenisch - somehow still the new guy!

He is still somehow the new guy, on the pitch at least. From the seven months that Sebastian Boenisch has been signed to Werder Bremen, the youngster has been out with a knee injury for the last five. Not the best start to make with a new club but he feels he has used the time well.

Niemeyer 'finally' back on the pitch

September 29th 2007 was basically a wonderful day for Peter Niemeyer. For the first time, he’d battled his way into the Green-Whites starting eleven and then scored the leading goal against Arminia Bielefeld. Then suddenly the joy was over!

Almeida ill - Pasanen and Hunt carrying knocks

There is a bout of the flu doing the rounds in Bremen at the moment and two of Werder’s players have fallen foul to it. Both Hugo Almeida and Max Kruse had to rest up while the squad began preparations for Saturday’s clash with Borussia Dortmund. In addition, Petri Pasanen and Aaron Hunt are suffering from groin problems which will most likely keep them out of the tie.

UEFA set Glasgow date

The date for Werder Bremen’s UEFA Cup second leg clash with Scottish league leaders Glasgow Rangers has now been set. The second leg of the tie at the Weser Stadium will take place on Thursday, 13.03.2008 at 8:30pm and the game will be broadcast live by German television station ZDF.

Diego handed three match ban

This afternoon, Werder Bremen accepted the penalty sent down by the German Football League’s (DFB) disciplinary committee for playmaker Diego, who will now serve a three match suspension. The ban means the Brazilian international will miss out on clashes with Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg.

Diego: "I apologise to my team"

Sometimes you just have to feel sorry for him. Werders playmaker Diego is, due to his stunning technical ability, the most fouled and most heavily provoked player in the Bundesliga. In the 40th minute against Frankfurt, Diego had finally had enough and reacted strongly!

Frustrating away defeat

On the 21st match day of the Bundesliga season, Werder Bremen slipped to a 0:1 (0:0) defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt. In front of a 50,000 strong crowd at the Frankfurt Arena, Greek striker Ioannis Amanatidis scored the only goal of the game in the 58th minute.
