Werder will be without Claudio Pizarro for this weekend’s away match in Dortmund due to a back problem that he picked up during the week. Pizarro didn’t take part in the Green-Whites’ final training session and will not travel with the team to Dortmund.

Pizarro back problems

Claudio Pizarro’s international with Peru on Wednesday night spelt bad news. In the 49th minute of his 1-0 defeat to Uruguay, Pizarro had to be substituted through injury. The Werder goalscorer was suffering back problems but an exact diagnosis is still to be made.

The DFB disciplinary board have handed out a two-match ban as well as a 15,000 Euro fine to Papy Djilobodji. It followed Werder's claim that the provocative element of the player's gesture was not as severe as in the case of Deniz Naki in 2009, who received a three-match ban.

On Tuesday afternoon, Werder have been told by the DFB that Papy Djilobodji has been handed a three-match ban. This would only take effect after he has served his yellow-card suspension. Werder do not agree with this decision and have decided to appeal the decision.
