The head coach on the game: Video analysis of the Stuttgart game took a little longer than usual, reports Florian Kohfeldt. “But then, we put it behind us,” he says, pleased with how this week’s training has gone. “There was an especially good tempo and intensity at training yesterday.” That’s why the belief that Werder can win in Leipzig is definitely there – both amongst the coaching staff and the players. “We’re going up against the most in-form side in Germany at the moment, so it won’t be easy, but we’ll go into it with everything we’ve got.” Leipzig’s head coach, Julian Nagelsmann, has a big squad available to him, so Kohfeldt is expecting a highly flexible opponent. He points out two of their main strengths: “Leipzig are the best side in Germany as far as defending counter attacks goes, and then they’re very fluid in their positioning.” It will also be important to line up with the right mentality this weekend. “We need to have that awareness and show determination on the pitch.”
The last match: Werder’s performance last time out against RB Leipzig wasn’t anything they’ll be trying to replicate this time; SVW lost 3-0 in the Red Bull Arena on 15th February 2020. Florian Kohfeldt’s side want to do things better this time.
