It was no easy take, but in the end SV Werder Bremen got the job done with a 2-0 win against FC Carl Zeiss Jena to book their spot in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. "In the end, a comfortable and deserved victory thanks to the second, but I can’t be satisfied with the first," said head coach Florian Kohfeldt.

WERDER.DE rounds up all the reaction from tonight’s win.

Florian Kohfeldt: "We weren’t happy with the first half, we were too slow. We did much better in the second half. We’ll have to talk about our finishing, we have to be more clinical. You have to say that Jena really put up a fight. We never had the feeling that we could take our foot off the gas. We were perhaps a bit too nervous in the first half, because we wanted to try and score early. Overall, it wasn’t a very good game from us. In the end, we fully deserved the win, but it wasn’t the dominant performance we had hoped for."

Maximilian Eggestein: "We were a bit too slow in the first half. We were a bit too open on the counter. We had one or two chances in the first half, but in the second we stepped things up and deserved to win I think."

On the return to competitive action:

Florian Kohfeldt: "After a positive pre-season, we kept a clean sheet again. You could see we were playing for something. That has helped the players. We know it’s not a case of just clicking fingers and playing better football again. We have to work for that in every game."

Maximilian Eggestein: "We face a team who have played five games already, they are in rhythm. It was also our first match in front of a crowd, which was really nice. It was a typical cup match. For us, all that counts is that we’re through. That’s important."
