“My first impression has been very, very good,” said Patrick Erras at his official unveiling on Wednesday afternoon at the wohninvest WESERSTADION, where he spoke about his first three days as a Werder Bremen player. Although he is yet to complete a first-team session out on the training pitch, the 25 year-old signing already feels “really well integrated into the team.”

The midfielder has rejoined two old friends in Bremen, as he has already played alongside Niclas Füllkrug and Kevin Möhwald during his time with 1. FC Nürnberg. But the Bavarian certainly wasn’t asking his former teammates for information about the club prior to signing his contract with SVW. Erras wanted time “to form his own ideas.”

After 13 years with his previous club, the man standing at 6ft 5 had a great desire to try something new. “I really wanted a change of scenery and to take on this challenge here in Bremen.” Patrick Erras trusts in his own ability, and outlined his strengths: “I know what I can do. I want to work and fight hard to convince the coach, and to get into the team.”

Frank Baumann, sporting director, also has confidence in his player: “He knows that he needs to fight for his place. But we have faith that he can start making appearances for the team very soon.” Baumann described heading ability and versatility as two key strengths of the new number 29. The right-footed Erras has appeared in 19 Bundesliga matches for 1. FC Nürnberg, whilst playing a further 61 games in Bundesliga 2. Erras will immediately get to work, with the aim of making a good impression at SV Werder.
