Werder’s first-round DFB-Pokal opponent has been decided. On Saturday afternoon, newly-promoted third-division side FC Carl Zeiss Jena defeated FSV Martinroda 8-2 to lift the Thuringian Cup.
The first round of the Pokal will take place between the 11th and 14th September 2020. The specific dates and times of each tie have not yet been released. The tie will be held at the home of Carl Zeiss Jena, the Ernst-Abbe-Sportdeld.
Kevin Möhwald is looking forward to the meeting in Thuringia. “For me personally it will be a special game, as we will be playing close to my hometown of Erfurt. As a team we have to take this game seriously and fully focus on the task at hand. We will need a good performance and will take the opponent seriously, and leave no doubt that we want to progress to the next round.”
Head coach Flroian Kohfeldt: “Carl Zeiss Jena are a traditional German club. We are looking forward to the game, in an area which has traditionally produced a lot of Werder players. We want to qualify for the next round.”
