WERDER.DE: We’re just asking because Davy Klaassen explained to us that he’d written you a message to ask if you had questions or wanted to know anything about the club. Can you tell us how that conversation went?
Tahith Chong: “Yes, once it came out that Werder were interested in me, he sent me a text to say that I should get in touch if I had any questions about the club or making the move to Germany and he’d be happy to help, which was really good of him. I’d seen him play at Ajax when I was younger so it’s amazing to be playing alongside him now!”
WERDER.DE: You’re 20 years old and Werder has been known in the past for helping future stars like Serge Gnabry and Kevin de Bruyne to take the next step in their careers. Was that one of the factors behind this move?
Tahith Chong: “It’s definitely in the back of your head when you come here. The club’s history and reputation for helping players like Gnabry and de Bruyne advance their careers is always good to hear, so I’m sure this the right place to continue my development.”
WERDER.DE: You’re going to be playing in the Bundesliga, so how much do you know about the league already, and how do you think it’s different to the Premier League?
Tahith Chong: “Having watched games from last season, it’s clear that there are a lot of young players coming through in the Bundesliga and that’s really exciting to see. You can see it here in Bremen as well with players who are the same age or younger than me!”
WERDER.DE: What are your main goals for this season?
Tahith Chong: “My main aim to play as much as possible and to help Werder to win as many games as we can.”
WERDER.DE: We’re currently at the team’s training camp here in Zillertal, but you’ve been a part of Manchester United’s Europa League squad and you’re obviously in good shape, so how much do you need the pre-season training?
Tahith Chong: “Pre-season is really important for me and I know how important it is for the entire team. Even though I might be fit enough already, the preparation is really important for me so that I can get to know my teammates and how the team plays as a whole. That will be really important for our season and will help us to perform well as a team on the pitch.”
