However, one thing is certain. Just as in previous years, Werder plan to travel to Zell in Austria to link up with long-standing partner Zillertal Tourismus GmbH for their pre-season training camp. “The conditions there are perfect, the hospitality is outstanding. Despite being hundreds of kilometres away from Bremen, we feel safe and at home there, and would like to prepare for the season there again this summer,” explained sporting director, Frank Baumann.
“Unfortunately, and I apologise to our travelling fans, due to the ambiguity regarding a start date for the new season, we are unable to set a date for our training camp at this moment in time. As soon as a start date is confirmed, we will make a decision as to when the training camp will take place,” said Baumann.
Of course, those in charge at SV Werder Bremen will continue to monitor the situation regarding the Coronavirus and the associated restrictions. Should the restrictions be lifted, as is being discussed by the politicians, nothing would stand in the way of the proposed training camp in Zillertal.
Ferdinand Lechner, Chairman of the Zell-Gerlos Tourism Association, responded: “We are already preparing for Werder Bremen’s training camp and would be very happy to welcome to the team once again, even if a date is yet to be confirmed. Of course the icing on the cake would be if the fans would also be able to make the trip because I am sure that they are itching to watch their stars live in action again. The situation in Zillertal is very positive, the various tourist attractions are being reopened in accordance with the legal requirements and there’s nothing more standing in the way of a great summer holiday in the mountains.”
