SV Werder take home the points after a five-goal thriller, earning their first win in eight matches. Head coach Florian Kohfeldt believes his team fought with “passion and courage”, but refused to allow himself to get carried away. “It’s a huge relief to win again after so many weeks without a victory. But the hard work doesn’t stop here. We will prepare for Paderborn next week and try to pick up as many points as we can before Christmas.” Although Kohfeldt’s team may not be able to completely relax after the game, they can certainly take a breather after what was a hectic encounter.

On the match:

Florian Kohfeldt: “It was a very heated affair, in which we went into half time with a deserved 2-1 lead. The second period was a roller coaster of emotions in a very physical battle. After their equaliser we threw everything we had at them again. If it ended in a draw then we would have had no regrets. We wanted to win the game and did so very passionately and bravely. I was happy to see that. Now we can prepare for Paderborn next week and try to pick up as many points as we can before Christmas.”

Philipp Bargfrede: “It was very difficult. They allowed us very little space and were strong in the tackle. However, we showed how much character we have and Milot took his chance really well. That gives us a lot of momentum for the coming games.”

Milot Rashica: “The win means a lot to us. It’s not that we’ve been playing badly; we’ve just conceded lots of unlucky goals. Today we showed that we can be strong both offensively and defensively, and that we can score goals.”

Leonardo Bittencourt: “We showed what we’re capable of. We played with bravery and passion and had the support of the fans behind us. I’m really proud of the team, even though we conceded two goals. Most of all, I’m happy that we showed that we can see games out. We can now build on this result with a win next week, and take the next step towards improving.”

Ludwig Augustinsson: "The last 15 minutes felt like the longest I've ever played. There were so many long balls and free kicks. The victory is incredibly important and well-deserved after eight games without a win."

On Rashica’s brace:

Maximilian Eggestein: “Milot has played really well this season. Pavlas was also really important today and showed that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga. I’m really happy for him.”

Leonardo Bittencourt: “Milot is a top guy and never lets his head drop. He plays with freedom and is in a great run of form at the moment.”

Milot Rashica: “The team believes in me and I’m getting more confident with every match.”
