Who’s coming and going? Every year during the summer transfer period, football fans eagerly wait to see what changes will be coming to the favourite club. The same goes for Frank Baumann. “We also like to read transfer rumours and look forward to seeing which names are connected to us,” said Werder’s sporting director during today’s opening press conference.

Currently, not much has changed for the Green-Whites when compared to preseason last year—with the exception of new signing Niklas Füllkrug, the signing of Marco Friedl and the departure of captain Max Kruse. In this regard, Werder are following the plan they have set out for themselves, as Florian Kohfeldt made clear. The club is looking to keep the current squad as intact as possible. “As head coach, I have a group right now that knows what they have to do,” said Kohfeldt.

“We don’t have that many players leaving the club and will only bring in a reasonable number of new ones,” said Frank Baumann. “We will strengthen ourselves at the right time.” It’s likely that Werder will still be active on the transfer market, as the sporting director explained. “I can’t promise when exactly we will sign players, but I can promise that we will still sign two or three players,” said Baumann.

One name that has been connected with Werder for weeks is Augsburg’s Michael Gregoritsch. “I already mentioned ahead of our last match against Augsburg that I think he is a solid player, but he is part of FC Augsburg, and for that reason I won’t be commenting on him.”
