The Green-Whites stayed true to their favourites tag and shipped six goals past neighbours SV Atlas Delmenhorst in Saturday evening’s DFB-Pokal clash. Werder, the away side at a sold-out (41,500) wohninvest WESERSTADION, flew out of the blocks early on to show eveveryone who rules the roost in Bremen. Florian Kohfeldt’s men put on a disciplined and focused performance against the sixth-tier opponents, scoring twice inside 20 minutes through Yuya Osako and Niklas Moisander. SV Atlas had 11 men behind the ball for long spells, but it didn’t stop them pulling a goal back on the break with a first-time finish from Tom Schmidt on the half-hour mark. But Werder bounced back quickly to re-establish their two-goal cushion, as Rashica fired home a powerful strike. Davy Klaassen added a fourth shortly before the break with some silky footwork. The second half continued in a similar fashion, Werder would only manage two more goals, both scored from legendary Claudio Pizarro just minutes after coming off the bench. Magical stuff from evergreen forward!
