Werder goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino had to make several quick saves to keep the score level at halftime. The hosts kept pushing during the second half and set the tone for the match. Pauli's substitutes came on and had an instant impact, particularly Diarra and Conteh. It was Diarra who scored from a spectaclar shot from distance to give Pauli the lead in the 52nd minute. A youthful Werder side had just a few attempts on Robin Himmelmanns's goal, and were unable to convert their best chance of the night, as Ihorst just missed getting a foot on a through ball from Woltemade.

Post-match reaction:

Florian Kohfeldt: "We knew that tonight would not be an easy match. Overall, it was a good test for the players. We can draw several positives from the match. Stefanos had a great game. He proved that we have a really good backup keeper in our squad. The young players fought hard, and you could see their potential. But, you could also see that they were missing that final bit in order to be able to keep up at this level."

Theodor Gebre Selassie: "Games like this are particularly important for the younger players. For myself, it was good to get to play at my usual position, in order to find my way back into the rhythm. I also have to praise Stefanos, as he had a great game."

Stefanos Kapino: "It was a good test for all of us. Especially for the younger players, it was a chance for them to pick up some experience on a higher level. The match was also important for the injured players, in order for them to get some playing time."
