Werder fell to their second defeat in their second Bundesliga game of the season, losing 3-2 to TSG Hoffenheim. Niclas Füllkrug scored on his first start since returning to the club to put Werder in front at half time (42’). Hoffenheim then hit back twice in quick succession through Ermin Bicakcic (54’) and Ihlas Bebou (59’). Jojo Eggestein received his marching orders after a second yellow card (77’), but this didn’t stop Werder. Yuya Osako won the ball back and rifled home the equaliser in the 81st minute. However, Pavel Kaderabek headed home from a corner to win the game for Hoffenheim (87’). Ömer Toprak also had to go off injured in the game.
