Romano Schmid is currently at Wolfsberger AC waiting for the Tipico Bundesliga season to resume, as the Austrian top flight’s season was extended until 30th June. The 20-year-old, who is spending the season on loan at the Austrian side, will return to SV Werder Bremen in the summer and be a part of Florian Kohfeldt’s squad.

“Romano was having a very good season in Austria up until the suspension in play. He’s a key player at Wolfsberger AC and has also gained experience playing in the Europa League. With this in mind, he will return to us for next season and be a key part of our Bundesliga team. We’re certain that he will start his Bundesliga career with us,” said the Sporting Director, Frank Baumann.

Romano Schmid is excited about his future on the Osterdeich, “I’m looking forward to the new challenge and to being a part of Werder Bremen next season. Werder is a huge club and I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Bundesliga,” said the central midfielder, who has so far concentrated solely on his performances in Austria this season. “If the season can continue we definitely want to secure fourth place, but also fight for third.”

Romano Schmid joined Werder Bremen in January 2019 after spending previous spells at SV Vasoldsberg, SK Sturm Graz and RB Salzburg, before moving to Wolfsberger AC on loan. Schmid has made 37 appearances in total in the Austrian Bundesliga, scoring four goals. The midfielder has also made six appearances in the Europa League, as well as taking part in three matches for the U21 Austrian national team.
