Faster, faster, Rashica: Werder’s man in form up front once again demonstrated not only his speed but his overall qualities going forward against Freiburg last weekend. Since his ‘lift off’ in the second round of last season, Bremen’s ‘rocket’ has been absolutely indispensable to head coach Florian Kohfeldt’s team. Moreover, according to Kohfeldt, he is finally almost back to 100% fitness.

Almost two years have passed since Milot Rashica first pulled on the famous green and white jersey. The winger arrived from Vitesse Arnheim in spring 2018 and had to deal with some initial teething problems. Now, though, Rashica has fully established himself in the Bundesliga and, with four goals in his last four games, the Kosovo international is continuing to prove how important he is to SVW’s attack. “He is a key player in the team.” The Werder coach is also aware how hard it has been for him to earn that reputation. Hours and hours of hard work are behind Rashica’s impressive development and his goals “don’t just fall from the sky.”

It’s interesting to hear that in ranking his many qualities, Kohfeldt puts his team spirit above both his finishing and his “understanding of the game.” He explains. “It doesn’t matter to him if he scores or his teammate scores. That’s what makes him so dangerous.”

With six goals so far this season, Werder's number seven is not only the club’s top scorer, but he has shown an incredible reliability in recent fixtures, even though the attacker wasn't even one hundred percent after his injury: "In Gladbach I know I can send him out there without having the worry of protecting him in the back of my mind."

If a barely fit Rashica can put in performances like he has been, then the Werder fans can only wonder how the 23-year-old will perform against the league leaders now that he's 100% fit.
