The draw has been made! SV Werder Bremen will host 1. FC Heidenheim in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The draw was made in the German Football Museum on Sunday evening.

The game against 2. Bundesliga side Heidenheim will take place on either Tuesday 29th October or Wednesday 30th October. The date of the game should be announced in the next few days. Following the victory against Atlas Delmenhorst in the first round, Werder will be looing for another win in the wohninvest WESERSTADION. “We’re very pleased that we’ve got a home game,” said Frank Baumann. “Heidenheim are one of the top teams in the 2. Bundesliga. They’ve shown their class in the cup in the past few years. We want to live up to our role as favourites. We’re looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces, as Busch, Theuerkauf, Hüsing and Mainka have all been involved with Werder in the past,” he added.

Head coach Florian Kohfeldt is also looking forward to the game in front of the Werder fans, but spoke of Heidenheim’s dangers: “Heidenheim are a dangerous opponent. They’re one of the top teams in the 2. Bundesliga, but we still have a good chance of getting into the next round. I’m pleased that we have a home game in the cup against Heidenheim and that I’ll see a couple of our boys who I coached in the youth academy at Werder.”

Maximilian Eggestein also gave his thoughts on the game: “It’s a great draw for us, because we have a home game more than anything else. I’m looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces but our only goal will be to get into the next round.”
