Goals galore, attractive football and into the next round of the cup: what more could you want? Florian Kohfeldt’s side put the game to bed after scoring 3 goals in the first 20 minutes. Kohfeldt described the second half performance as “mature” after retaining a 4-1 lead. Sebastian Langkamp described the game as “one of the best first-half performances of the season so far.” The reaction to the victory over Heidenheim:

On the match:

Florian Kohfeldt: “We had a very mature performance in the second half. Of course, there are some things that we can improve on, but overall the team did very well. Everyone knew what their role was on the pitch. We were very good, both with and without the ball. It was a great performance but we shouldn’t get carried away. Now we need to recover and prepare for Saturday.”

Michael Lang: “There was a lot of movement around the pitch and we had a lot of quality. You could see that in our build-up to the goals. In the end, we closed the game out well. Of course we wanted to score another goal, but we also needed to think about Saturday. Overall it was a great cup night.”

Sebastian Langkamp: “We played with a great intensity and we had the best first half of our season so far. It was important that we assessed certain situations correctly. They defended very deeply which was quite surprising, however we are really happy overall.”

Milos Veljkovic: “The coach set out a great game plan for us. We took the game very seriously and didn’t underestimate the opposition. But we also knew that we had to win the game. The first half was a really good performance from us. We knew that we could play like that. Our attackers did very well.”

Milot Rashica: “We took it very seriously and prepared thoroughly. We knew that the more goals we scored, the easier it would be. We pressed really hard and it worked well. We played great football, created lots of chances and could’ve scored even more. Now we are fully focussed on Saturday.”

Philipp Bargfrede: “We wanted to attack them right from the start and we strong both in attack and defence. We took our chances well and put the game to bed very quickly.”

On their upcoming fixtures:

Florian Kohfeldt: “You can say that we’ve achieved our main objective in the first half of the season. I’ve always said that performances are more important than results. We are on the right track. But that does not mean anything for Saturday because the game starts at 0-0.”

Philipp Bargfrede: “It’s a good win for us because it’s shown us a lot. We created lots of chances and also took them very well. That’s an important point to take into our next few games. We want to play just as well on Saturday and work well as a team.”

Milot Rashica: “We’ve drawn a few games but we’re on the right track. Hopefully we can now start to put a run of form together.”

Sebastian Langkamp: “We want to get as far as we did last season. A cup run can also help us perform better in the Bundesliga.”

On Langkamp’s return to the starting XI:

Florian Kohfeldt: “Basti played very confidently, assuredly and passed the ball well. I’m very happy!”

Milos Veljkovic: “I don’t know who the coach will pick to play in defence; that’s his decision. Basti and I worked really well today; we’ve known each other for a long time.”

Sebastian Langkamp: “It was a great game to make my comeback. I was out for five months, which is a very long time for a footballer. It was nice to be back out on the pitch with the rest of the team. I’m glad that I was able to play the full 90 minutes.”
