When an attack is created and finished perfectly, the only possible result is a goal. However, as Werder found out against Berlin, there are times when the keeper makes a great save, or the luck isn’t on your side, and it simply won’t go in for you. Nevertheless, the belief among the Werder squad is still sky-high. “It’s deeply rooted within the boys,” says the head coach, and adds, “Everyone in the dressing room is determined that we can play good football.” That means: finding a good balance between defence and attack, creating nice passages of attacking play and to trying to score more goals, no matter what the score is. To put it shortly: playing football the Werder way.
“There are a lot of possibilities,” Kohfeldt refers not only to the match, but also to his starting XI. Two important players have finally completed their returns from injury, in the shape of Yuya Osako and Ömer Toprak. “Sit back and defend? No chance!” the head coach claims ahead of an important week for SVW, with three games in just seven days. “A big challenge” awaits them, as the question is raised as to whether they can be successful in their new aim: “score or don’t concede”, which will be the difference between a win or a loss.
