The DFL decided on Tuesday that Werder Bremen’s upcoming game against Bayer Leverkusen will take place behind closed doors due to a guideline that states no public gatherings with 1000 or more spectators. The match on Monday 16th of March 2020 will take place with no fans from either side present.

“This is an important ruling in terms of protecting the population, but the organisers and clubs that are affected by this will naturally face huge challenges. We have adjusted well in the last few days and have begun to contact fans to answer their questions. We will make sure to communicate the exact specifics transparently and in a timely manner,” said Werder Bremen CEO, Klaus Filbry.
