But Füllkrug was by no means alone in on this journey. “I’ve received a lot of therapeutic treatment and I’ve always had a coach by my side, who led me through the procedures,” emphasises the big forward, adding: “So many different issues can be dealt with here because the club is so well set up.” Which is one reason is why Füllkrug believes he is at a level that he is happy with.
But the 26-year-old also finds strength in his new family. Four weeks ago, the Werder player became a father for the first time. He dedicated his first goal for Werder on matchday 2 in Sinsheim to his daughter. It is “the little one,” he says, “who inspires me and gives me positive energy on a daily basis.” Füllkrug is putting this energy to use in training and on the pitch, whether by dropping deeper or pressing high to win the ball from centre-backs.
