SV Werder fell to a 3-0 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt on the rescheduled Bundesliga Matchday 24 fixture. Despite a good first half performance, with periods of dominance, SV Werder eventually capitulated in the second half, conceding three late goals. It was the same old story for the Green Whites as they conceded two goals from set pieces yet again. “Today was a setback, but definitely not a knock-out blow. The mentality and the passion were both there. Our performance in the final half was encouraging. But the second half shows that there’s still work to be done,” head coach Florian Kohfeldt said after the final whistle, who’s already looking forward to the next game, “Be disappointed today, clearly address where we went wrong and draw conclusions from it. Then we face Wolfsburg on Sunday.”

On the match:

Florian Kohfeldt: “In the first half we played well and were the better side in my opinion. We had a good structure and battled well but we weren’t effective enough in front of goal; we needed to be more clinical. In the second half we rushed it a bit and made crucial mistakes. That wasn’t good. Above all we were sloppy in possession and failed get into the right positions. Eintracht deserved to win because of the second half.”

Niklas Moisander: “We played well up until they made it 1-0; we were confident and had created a few chances. But after that we conceded far too easily. Eintracht are a great side, but we weren't composed enough at the end of the game. We have to stay calm now because it’s still possible for us.”

On the goals conceded:

Florian Kohfeldt: “All three goals should have been prevented. It was bad, they switched off. We’ve clearly addressed these situations as a team already. For the first goal we outnumbered them in the penalty area. He managed to get away, we have to stick with our man; it’s a real problem for us.”

Niklas Moisander on the first goal: “It was a great cross, but we have to get closer to our man and I was too far away.”

On the possible penalty claim:

Florian Kohfeldt: “We had a good discussion with the assistant; he kept us up to date with what was happening (during the video review). It came down to the facts. If he was offside, then he was offside. We haven’t had much luck with these tight decisions at the moment, but that can’t be an excuse.”
