Head coach Florian Kohfeldt could have to go without Leonardo Bittencourt for this weekend’s match. Werder’s midfield maestro has been suffering with illness since the start of the week and might not be able to face FC Bayern München on Saturday. “We will make a decision about whether he can play or not in the near future,” said Florian Kohfeldt at today’s press conference.

Bittencourt has been a constant in Kohfeldt’s team since his last-minute transfer to the club. The 25-year-old has missed just one game through illness so far. He is now faced with the same prospect against the record champions. “Leo will train today, or at least try to. For now, I’m assuming he will be part of the matchday squad. We will have to make a decision in the short-term about whether or not he plays,” said Kohfeldt.

Werder’s head coach won’t have to worry about any other potential absences because everyone else from his Paderborn squad is match fit and ready to play on Saturday (15:30 CET) against the reigning champions. “Everyone else is healthy and injury free after the Paderborn game,” explained Kohfeldt.
