Werder Bremen seem to have matured as the season has gone on. Florian Kohfeldt’s side are currently unbeaten in 12 games, moved up to sixth in the Bundesliga last weekend, and made it into the DFB-Pokal semi-final on Wednesday evening. It’s a process that Werder will want to continue in Mönchengladbach on Sunday (7th April, 18:00 CEST).

“The team have been going through a process of maturing throughout the season and we’re now slowly reaping the rewards,” said Kohfeldt. Werder were able to pick up 17 points from their first eight games this season, but their playing style was not up to scratch. “We didn’t really play good football in the first few weeks, but we got a lot of points,” he added.

The team seem to be maturing as the season goes on, both on and off the pitch. However, Werder also need to be focussed for their upcoming game against Gladbach despite their win against Schalke in the DFB-Pokal quarter-final during the week. “They’ve developed a certain self-confidence. They’ve got the belief in themselves and they’ve developed their own strengths. Getting focussed quickly and adjusting themselves for the upcoming opponents will help. The boys are already geared up for Gladbach and that’s exactly what you need in a situation like this,” added Kohfeldt.

Werder’s maturing is far from complete. It will go on, even beyond the game on Sunday and help the Green-Whites in both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal.
