First Hannover, then Frankfurt and now Nürnberg. If you look at the positions of the previous opponents Werder have faced and the upcoming opponent, Werder will be ready for another roller coaster of a game. On Saturday, SVW will be the guests at the Max-Morlock stadium, the home of FC Nürnberg. Florian Kohfeldt’s team will be wanting to continue their good form, this time against the bottom of the table side. “Four points from two games is a decent number and a good start to the second half of the season. We are now fully focused on the Nürnberg game and we really want to get the win;” said the Werder coach confidently.

The last game: On matchday 3, Nürnberg were finally guests again at the Weser-Stadion, having not visited for four years. In a rather one-sided game, with SVW dominating especially in the first half, Florian Kohfeldt’s team found it difficult to turn dominance into goals. It was Maximilian Eggestein who took the lead for the Green-Whites in the 26th minute, scoring a superb goal. Nevertheless, the 1-0 lead at half-time was a great understatement of the home side’s dominance. In the second half, although SVW put in another good performance, it was not rewarded with a victory. In the 92nd minute of the game, Kohfeldt’s team were caught napping and Nürnberg scored a late equaliser through Virgil Misidjan.

The head coach on the game: “I expect an opponent who will fight for absolutely everything. Nothing can be taken for granted on Saturday,” said Florian Kohfeldt, who is also expecting a very different game in comparison to the game last week against Eintracht Frankfurt. “They try to build from the back and come forward with some nice combinations,” analysed the coach. It has been made clear though for the Werder coach that in the last two games: “we have the self-belief, to ensure that the result only depends on how we play.” This new-found strength will be shown on Saturday. “Our full focus should be on how we want to play. We want to keep the intensity high so that we can continue our recent good form.”

Personnel: Florian Kohfeldt will have nearly all his players available on Saturday. Only Philipp Bargfrede will miss out due to picking up five yellow cards, and therefore is suspended. Yuya Osako will also miss out due to being with Japan in the Asia Cup. Japan will play Qatar in the final of the Asia Cup on Friday. Good luck Yuya!

The opposition: The hosts are currently bottom of the table, with 11 points and therefore, the sporting situation is rather tense in Nürnberg. Michael Köllner’s team have pushed hard after being promoted to the Bundesliga this year. However, they have lost 8 of their last 10 games and have conceded 43 goals, a Bundesliga high. They are also having problems going forward. Only VfB Stuttgart have scored few goals than FC Nürnberg’s 15 goals. Nürnberg have used this transfer window to try and turn their fortunes around and have signed Ivo Ilicevic, an experienced Bundesliga forward. Nevertheless, they are still in the DFB-Pokal and will face HSV next week.

Players in focus: There will be two reunions on the pitch this Saturday as the two teams face each other. Werder player Kevin Möhwald will meet his former club, for whom he played 87 games for in the 2. Bundesliga. On the other hand, FCN player Robert Bauer will face his former club, having left Werder last summer. He has played 11 Bundesliga games and two cup games for FCN. The defender could make his comeback against SVW having picked up a slight muscle injury in training.

Referees: Dr. Robert Kampka will be the referee. The 36-year-old doctorate will be supported by Benedikt Kempkers and Tobias Christ on the sidelines. Markus Sinn will be the fourth official. The video assistant referees are Sascha Stegemann and Johann Pfeifer.
