Another step closer to Berlin! Werder played patiently against Schalke and won the game 2-0, moving another step closer to Berlin. Milot Rashica put Werder ahead with a fantastic finish in the 65th minute before Davy Klaassen doubled the lead just seven minutes later. Nuri Sahin was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 89th minute.

Line-up and formation: Florian Kohfeldt made three chances from the win against Mainz at the weekend. Theodore Gebre Selassie missed out after picking up a knock against Mainz and was replaced by Marco Friedl at right back. Nuri Sahin came back into the team to replace Kevin Möhwald and Johannes Eggestein started in place of Martin Harnik.

65 mins: GOOOAAALLL! Milot Rashica! What a goal that was! Friedl passes to Rashica on the edge of the box, who gets it out of his feet and fires a fierce effort into the far corner!

72 mins: GOOOAALL – Davy Klaassen! Klaassen passes to Rashica, who passes to Augustinsson on the left wing. The left back then plays a subtle dink over the defence and Klaassen pokes it in first time to score!

89 mins: Nuri Sahin is sent off for a second bookable offence. Sahin challenges for a high ball and the referee decides his boot was too high, sending the midfielder off.

90+4 mins: Full time! Werder have beaten Schalke for the third time this season to advance into the DFB-Pokal semi-finals!

Match summary: The game wasn’t set alight and it seemed like it was going to take something like Milot Rashica’s wonderful effort to split the two sides. Davy Klaassen’s goal just minutes later wrapped things up and Werder are one step closer to Berlin!
