It was a Piza Party on the final day for Werder. The Green-Whites beat Leipzig 2-1 and finished the season in eighth place. Due to Wolfsburg’s win, Werder’s European dream will have to wait until next season, but the Green-Whites got their own job done on the day. There were no highlights in the first 30 minutes until Yuya Osako was brought down inside the box and Werder got a penalty. Milot Rashica put it into the corner and Werder led at half time. Leipzig were awarded a penalty in the second half after Marco Friedl was adjudged to have handled, but Bruma put the spot-kick over the bar. Mukiele equalised for the away side in the 86th minute before Claudio Pizarro celebrated his new contract in style by scoring the winner for Werder just two minutes later.

Line-up and formation: Florian Kohfeldt made two changes from last week’s win in Hoffenheim. Davy Klaassen returned after his yellow card suspension and Marco Friedl came in for the injured Theodor Gebre Selassie.
