What a game! Werder drew 2-2 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in their second Bundesliga game of 2019. Maxi Eggestein put the Green-Whites into the lead with a marvellous solo goal (27’) before Ante Rebic curled home the equaliser (35’). Eggestein then hit the post just before the break. Martin Harnik put Werder into the lead again with a cool finish (53’), but Sebastian Haller scored another equaliser from the penalty spot (68’), meaning the game ended all-square.

Lineup and formation: Milot Rashica missed the game with a short-term back injury. This meant that Jojo Eggestein came into the side, with Philip Bargfrede replacing Nuri Sahin in midfield in the only other change.

6 mins: First chance for Werder as Martin Harnik finds Jojo Eggestein, but he takes a second too long.

9 mins: Chance for the away side as Luka Jovic attempts an acrobatic shot, but Jiri Pavlenka is equal to his effort.

12 mins: Sebastian Langkamp gets his head on a corner and Martin Harnik tries an overhead kick, but he can’t quite make contact with the ball.

27 mins: GOOOAALL for Werder – Maxi Eggestein! The midfielder receives the ball perfectly from Harnik and somehow wriggles away from the whole Frankfurt defence then beats the keeper! What a goal!

35 mins: Ante Rebic equalises for Frankfurt. The forward sells Niklas Moisander as he cuts back onto his left foot and curls the ball home from the edge of the box. Shortly afterwards, Basti Langkamp goes off injured after suffering a cut to the head.

39 mins: Post! Maxi Eggestein lines one up from distance but the ball cannons back off the post!

45 mins: Half time. It’s been a strong first half from Werder, with a lot of chances.

Penalty ruins the party

52 mins: GOOOAAALLL – Martin Harnik! Klaassen finds Kruse, who plays the perfect through-ball to Martin Harnik. Harnik is cool as a cucumber and knocks the ball past the goalkeeper before rounding him himself and tapping home!

68 mins: Eintracht equalise from the penalty spot. The spot-kick was given after a handball from Ludwig Augustinsson, and Haller makes no mistake.

80 mins: Kruse crosses and Maxi Eggestein has a chance for a second with a header, but Trapp saves his effort.

90+2 mins: Unbelievable! Some great play from Werder ends with Maxi Eggestein taking a shot, only to be denied by an amazing block!

90+4 mins: Full time in the Weserstadion.

Match summary: What a game that was. Eintracht scored two goals from three chances, whilst Werder had several chances, only to be denied. The Green-Whites will know that, if they had taken their chances, they would have won that game.
