Werder lost 1-0 (0-0) to FC Bayern this afternoon. The Green-Whites were looking strong defensively but Milos Veljkovic was sent off for a second yellow card in the 58th minute. Bayern scored the only goal of the game when a Niklas Süle shot deflected and bounced into the goal (75’).

Line-up and formation: Florian Kohfeldt made one change from the win against SC Freiburg last weekend. Kevin Möhwald replaced Yuya Osako in the starting XI.

Goalless first half

6 mins: Werder are looking very up for this, as Davy Klaassen’s shot is blocked out for a corner.

26 mins: Unbelievable save from Pavlenka! Thiago lofts the ball into the box and Gnabry shoots hard and low, but Pavlas somehow gets his foot to the ball to keep it out!

45 mins: Half time in Munich. It was a first half without many highlights.

49 mins: Pavlas saves from Lewandowski, again with his foot.

58 mins: Milos Veljkovic is sent off for a second yellow card. The defender goes up for a header with Niklas Süle and the referee adjudges that he challenged with his elbow. Sebastian Langkamp then comes on for Kevin Möhwald. Pavlenka had just made two more great saves before the sending off.

70 mins: Pavlenka again! This time from Alaba – what a performance!

75 mins: Goal – Bayern go ahead. Niklas Süle’s shot deflects off Davy Klaassen and bounces in, with Pavlas wrong-footed.

90 mins: Full time. Werder are unlucky to lose by a goal here after defending so heroically.

Match summary: Bayern were struggling to break Werder down, with the Green-Whites looking to sniff out a chance on the counter. Pavlenka put in a magnificent performance to stop the home side getting more than the one goal they got. Werder were unlucky to lose in the way that they did and will look to go again against Bayern at home this Wednesday in the DFB-Pokal semi-final (20:30 CEST).
