It’s the news that you’ve all been waiting for: Maximilian Eggestein has extended his contract with Werder Bremen. Frank Baumann announced the news on Wednesday, two days after Maxi’s brother, Jojo, also signed a new deal.
Eggestein has become one of Werder’s top performers and a Bundesliga regular, also earning his first call-up to the Germany first team last month. “We’re very glad that we could convince Maxi to continue his journey with Werder. He’s been putting in consistently good performances for months and he’s matured both as a player and a person in the last few years,” said Frank Baumann.
Florian Kohfeldt was also pleased with the news: “Maxi is an important part of our team and the way we play. He’s already got a good amount of Bundesliga experience and has a lot of responsibility on the pitch. I’m very glad that we’ll be able to accompany him with his development.”
Maximilian Eggestein has started Werder’s last 58 competitive games, and sees his contract extension as an important step in his career: “It’s no secret that I feel extremely comfortable here at Werder. As a team and a club, we’ve set ourselves ambitious goals. I want to work to achieve these in the future and carry on the development that I’ve had going in the last few years here.”
Maxi Eggestein signed for Werder as a 14-year-old, coming through the youth ranks and into the first team. He made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 17 in 2014. In 94 games for the Green-Whites, Eggestein has scored ten goals and got nine assists.
