The news that the 20-year-old had signed a new contract with Werder was announced on Monday morning. “A good time,” according to Eggestein. The decision to extend his contract, however, was made much earlier. "My development this year wasn't massively obviously in summer. But I’ve noticed over the course of this season that the development is positive – for myself and for the whole club – and I can make that next step here,” said Eggestein.
Werder want to play in Europe, and Johannes wants to help them achieve this goal. Both sides have ambitious goals. The Green-Whites want to establish themselves at the top of the table, and Eggestein wants to establish himself in the team. Florian Kohfeldt also played a role in Jojo signed a new deal: “We spoke. He’s shown me the way he wants to go with me and the club.”
That’s what convinced the striker. The danger that the Eggestein brothers would leave Werder for an attractive deal somewhere else didn’t seem too great: “There was interest from other teams, but I always said that I would speak to Werder first and I only had discussions with Werder,” said Eggestein.
