Positive news for next season! Johannes Eggestein will be staying at Werder, with the 20-year-old signing a new contract with the Green-Whites.
“Johannes has continually developed since he signed for us in 2013. He’s become a key part of our Bundesliga squad due to his patience, hard work and good performances. So we’re very happy that Jojo has decided to carry on his journey with us,” said Frank Baumann.
Florian Kohfeldt echoed these thoughts: “I’ve known Jojo ever since he started here at Werder and I followed his development into the Under-23s and then the first team. It definitely wasn’t an easy journey for him to come from the youth team into the Bundesliga, but he’s always believed in himself and the journey we want to follow with him. Johannes is a very intelligent player with a definite instinct for scoring goals. We think he’s capable of playing a big role in our future.”

Jojo Eggestein himself was also very pleased with his decision: “I always said that I wanted to wait on continuing my development here at Werder. It’s been very positive in the last few months and years. The time had come to make a decision. I feel very comfortable at Werder and in Bremen and I’m convinced that I can become a better Bundesliga player here in the next few years.”
Johannes Eggestein signed for Werder from TSV Havelse in 2013 and made his way up into the first team. He was top scorer in the B-Junioren-Bundesliga in 2014 and 2015, and also topped the scoring charts in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga in 2016, scoring 33 times. Jojo has made 26 Bundesliga appearances so far, scoring three goals. Eggestein has also played for Germany at every youth level and is currently part of the Under-21 side, having scored one goal in six games.
