For the majority of the Werder players, the international break has been used to begin preparing for the Bundesliga game against Mainz 05, but on Tuesday evening, some Werder players were also representing their respective countries. Werder.de rounded up all the player’s performances.

Having beaten Romania 2-1 last Saturday, Sweden were going for another victory in their Euro qualifier, this time against Norway. Ludwig Augustinsson was in the starting XI. Sweden were rampant in the first half but were unable to take advantage of all the opportunities that they created. Norway, on the other hand were clever and exploited the space left by the Swedes before going 1-0 up. Early on in the second half, Norway doubled their lead through Joshua King, who finished off a blistering counter attack. However, Sweden did not give up and got a goal back in the 70th minute, thanks to Claesson’s first ever international goal. The Swedes pushed for the equaliser and were rewarded in the 86th minute when a deflected Robin Quaison shot found the back of the net. The comeback was not complete however, as Quaison then made it 3-2 in injury time. Nevertheless, Norway were not finished either and in the 96th minute found an equaliser through Kamara to make it 3-3 and finish off a hectic game.

Jiri Pavlenka and Theodor Gebre Selassie played against Brazil with the Czech Republic. The Werder keeper started, whilst the right-back was on the bench. The hosts (Czech Republic) began well and were courageous going forward and were even able to take the lead. David Pavelka took one of the chances in the 37th minute. Selassie came on at half-time but did not start well. A poor pass from the Czech right-back allowed Roberto Firmino to start a counter in which Brazil equalized from. A double from Gabriel Jesus in the final minutes of the game meant that Brazil won.
In Bournemouth, the Germany U21s faced a very hard game against England U21s. The young Germans began the game well and could have taken the lead early on through Luca Waldschmidt. In the 27th minute however, they were celebrating as Dahoud put them 1-0 up. Shortly before half-time however, England equalized to make it 1-1. Felix Uduokhai scored the winner in the second half for the Germany U21s. Johannes Eggestein came on with ten minutes to go.
The Germany U19s needed to win their final game against Hungary in order to keep their U19 Euro qualification hopes alive. Jean-Manuel Mbom and Luca Plogmann both started and played the entire game. Yeboah scored twice as Guido Streichsbier’s team went into half-time with a healthy lead. The victory was sealed late on when Herrmann scored to make it 3-0. Nevertheless, Germany U19s missed out on the Euros as Norway beat Croatia 2-1..
