Josh Sargent and the United States fell to a 1-0 defeat as Jamaica’s Shamar Nicholson scored the only goal of the game in the 60th minute. Despite the result, Sargent can be pleased with his performance as he was involved in some good play especially in the second half. On Thursday, US head coach Gregg Berhalter will name his final squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup and Sargent will hope to receive an inclusion for the tournament.
Yuya Osako was also involved in a disappointing result for Japan. The Werder striker also featured for the full 90 minutes as the Samurai Blue could only manage a goalless draw against Trinidad and Tobago in the KIRIN Challenge Cup. After the match, Osako expressed his optimism for the upcoming Copa America tournament. “The team’s job is to overcome new challenges. I have a feeling things will get better now,” said the Japanese striker on Instagram.
