Theodor Gebre Selassie announced his retirement from the Czech Republic national side on Tuesday morning. Posting on social media, the defender said: “After a lot of deliberation about my health and my family, I’ve decided to close this chapter for myself.”

Gebre Selassie made his debut in June 2011, and was part of the Czech Republic squad for the Euros in both 2012 and 2016. He collected 54 caps for his country, scoring three goals. “I’ll never forget the feeling of pride when playing for the Czech Republic and hearing the national anthem. It was an honour,” he added.
