It was a high-pace game between Werder and Frankfurt that ultimately ended 2-2. Werder put in a great performance once again, but weren’t rewarded with the three points. “We had a lot of chances that we didn’t take again. We’re disappointed to only take a point, because we played well,” said Johannes Eggestein.

WERDER.DE brings you all the key quotes following an action-packed match against Eintracht Frankfurt!

On the game:

Max Kruse and Co. put on a solid performance, but couldn't secure the points. (Photo: nph).

Florian Kohfeldt: "We were a notch better than in the first half of the seson and we definitely would have deserved a win today. We dominated a team that won all six games in the Europa League and have an average of more than two points per game. My team deserve respect for creating so many chances against a team like that. If we weren't creating such clear chances, it would be a problem. But we're still learning and I hope we will continue to do so quickly. We are staying calm, at some point things will fall inot place and we'll have a big win. But today it wasn't enough for the win and I'm not happy about that."

Max Kruse: "We didn't achieve what we had set out to. We can only be partially satisfied because we squandered too many chances. It doesn't interest me that we had our oppoents against the ropes or how well we played, because we didn't win in the end."

Philipp Bargfrede: "I think that was an attractive and exciting game, hard-fought with plenty of chances. We played a good game, but should have won. The goals we conceded were unfortunate and we wasted too many chances going forward. It was enough in Hannover, but not today. A win against a direct opponent for Europa League would have been important, which is why we are disappointed."

Maxi Eggestein: "It was a good effort from us today and a good game. It was to and fro in the second half. At the end of the day we were better, created more chances and we had to win the game."

Niklas Moisander: “I think we saw two good teams today. Our tactic to press early on was good, and Frankfurt couldn’t get into the game for a while. We had a lot of chances. If we want to get into Europe, we have to win these games.”

Johannes Eggestein: “Overall, we had a very good game. We had a lot of chances that we didn’t take again. In the end, we’re annoyed about how easy the goals we let in were. It was a good shot from Ante Rebic, but we shouldn’t have defended it earlier.”

On controversial decisions:

Florian Kohfeldt: "I have a good relationship with the referee and whoever knows me knows that I place no blame on the referee today. But it felt today like we were unfairly handeled and you need to be able to say that. I try to protect myself by walking away, but still get sent to the stands."

On Maximillian Eggestein's goal:

Saturday’s clash was full of battles all over the pitch (Photo: nordphoto).

Florian Kohfeldt: "The whole time I was thinking 'pass' until I realised what he was doing. That was world class! The good thing is that Maxi always stays grounded."

Johannes Eggestein: "Maxi did very well there. I was two metres away and actually expected him to pass. But he did the best possible thing to score."

Niklas Moisander: "It was a well worked counter. Maxi did brilliantly in the end and showed all his quality to score."

Maximilian Eggestein: "I've never scored a goal like that in my career, it was very special for me."

On the next game in Nuremberg:

Florian Kohfeldt: "We need to beat Nürnberg to get points on the baord. Seven points would be a good start to 2019 for me. We're not looking at the table, we're not checking scores, we just want to win."

Johannes Eggestein: "We have started the second half of the season with four points. We want to continue well next week in Nürnberg.”

Martin Harnik: "Nürnberg are in a relegation battle and will fight hard. We need to go there with the aim of taking a step towards the Europa League spots."
