The Germany U21s made an impressive start to their European Championship campaign in Italy and San Marino. Maximilian Eggestein played the full 90 minutes as Stefan Kuntz’s side beat Denmark 3-1, also providing the assist for Marco Richter’s opener. The FC Augsburg man starred in the victory, going on to score another goal and set one up too.

It was an impressive all-round performance from Maxi Eggestein, who played in a four-man midfield alongside Arne Maier, Mo Dahoud and Levin Öztunali. His brother Johannes didn’t get a chance to shine, however. The 21-year-old forward will be hoping to feature in Germany’s next game against Serbia on Thursday night (21:00 CEST).

The Serbs played earlier in the day against Austria, losing 2-0 to Marco Friedl’s side, although the Werder defender was an unused substitute. The win came at a price for Austria, however, with goalscorer Hannes Wolf suffering a horrific ankle break.
