FC Wacker Innsbruck, FC Tirol Innsbruck, FC Wacker Tirol and in the end FC Wacker Innsbruck once again - SV Werder's first test match opponent in Zillertal has a long history. Kick-off of the match is Wednesday 23 July 2014 at 6 p.m.
It's not that long ago that FC Wacker Innsbruck was called FC Wacker Tirol. After the Innsbruck club had to file for bankruptcy due to financial difficulties in 2002, the re-formation of the club followed with the name FC Wacker Tirol. Five years later, the club leaders decided to use the traditional name of the club to build on the successful past. Innsbruck was especially strong in the 1980s when they won five of 10 championships in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The Green-Blacks are quite far from that kind of success at the moment. Wacker Innsbruck finished in last place in the Austrian Bundesliga last season with just five victories from 36 matches and were relegated. Coach Michael Streiter was able to see on the first match day of the new season that mission "Direct Promotion" will not be easy. The former Austrian international's team lost their first match at SV Mattersburg 2-0. The team, which is made up almost exclusively of Austrians, is under extreme pressure at the up-coming home match against Austria Lustenau. Innsbruck must play in the league just two days after the test match with Werder.
