The countdown to the start of the 2014-15 season is ticking - especially in Poland. While the SV Werder preparations have only just started, Pogon Stettin only have two weeks before the start of the season. So the test match against Prödl, Petersen and Co. on Tuesday 8 July 2014 at 6 p.m. will be a real yardstick for the Polish top flight side.
The Ekstraklasa season will start on Friday 18 July 2014 when Stettin play the season opener at Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala. Werder's next test match opponent will be hoping to qualify for the championship, which will was carried out for the first time last season. The season modus in Poland's top flight has each team play home and away matches against each team and then the top eight teams play for the championship. The other eight teams fight against relegation.

After Stettin finished the regular season in fourth place, they ended the championship round in seventh. The result can be seen as a step forward for Dariusz Wdowczyk's team, which has developed continually after earning promotion in 2012 and keeping the league in 2013. Stettin's most important player is Marcin Robak, who has been the subject of transfer rumors recently. And there's plenty of reasons for that as the Polish international finished last season with 22 goals to win the scoring championship. The highlight was his five goals against Lech Posen.
But the club really hasn't had a big success thus far. Even though Pogon Stettin was founded in 1948 and was a regular in the Ekstaklasa, the team from the Polish port city has never won a trophy. The biggest success in the club's history was runner-up in 1987 and 2001 as well as the cup final in 2010.
