SV Werder Bremen remained undefeated under new coach Viktor Skripnik as the Green-Whites beat Odense BK 1-0 in a friendly Friday night in Bremen. Nils Petersen scored the game winner.
As Skripnik said beforehand, a number of players who hadn't received much playing time got the chance to showcase themselves. In addition to established players like Assani Lukimya, Luca Caldirola or Petersen, U23s Lukas Fröde, Marcel Hilßner and Maximilian Eggestein took advantage of the absence of the Werder internationals and started against the Danish team. Skripnik played the usual 4-4-2 system.
Werder scored the decisive goal with the first chance of the game. After some fine passing on the left side, Hilßner had the ball and fed the open Petersen, who pushed the ball home in the fifth minute. Werder were lucky to still be ahead in the 25th minute as Daniel Hoegh struck the crossbar with his attempt.

The spectators at the Platz 11 grounds did not see any goals in the second half as the Green-Whites held on for the 1-0 victory.
Viktor Skripnik about ...
... the friendly: "We need this kind of match to better find our game. The thing today was mainly about continuing to develop. If you make a mistake here it doesn't hurt as much as in a competitive match. We wanted to concentrate on our passing game and really use the playmaker. I am not satisfied with everything but altogether it was a good test for us."
... the performance of the U23 players: "I can say that the U23 players showed a very good approach. Of course you can tell the difference between the juniors and seniors. Altogether I can compliment everyone."
... the goal by Nils Petersen: "It's good that he scored again. Every striker needs confidence. That is enormously important."
