SV Werder suffered their first defeat of the season preparations in their 10th test match of the pre-season. Robin Dutt's team lost against Bundesliga side Hannover 96 2-0 on the Platz 11 grounds of Weser Stadium. The guests' goals were scored by Artur Sobiech (75th) and Hiroshi Kiyotake (85th) in the final quarter hour.

The first chance of the match went to the Green-Whites. After a nice cross from Santiago Garcia, Nils Petersen got his head on the ball in the 12th minute but only found the crosssbar. New acquisition Izet Hajrovic attempted a long distance shot 10 minutes later but could not beat Hannover keeper Ron-Robert Zieler. At the other end, Werder keeper Raphael Wolf showed off his skills by stopping Joselu's header, keeping Bremen in the game at 0-0 at the break.

Two unnecessary goals allowed

Dutt's team lost their structure within the team after the hour mark through a number of substitutions and watched as they conceded two goals. In the 75th minute, Luca Caldirola failed to clear a cross and Sobiech took advantage of the miscue and hit home to make it 1-0. The decision came five minutes before the final whistle as Galvez and Caldirola could not clear the ball from the box, allowing Kiyotake to hit home and make it 2-0 for the guests.

Robin Dutt: "The match was pretty good for an hour. After that, the match kind of broke down because of the numerous substitutions. But that is part of test matches. You have to give everyone in the preparations to showcase themselves. We did not overestimate the result from the Chelsea game and we still don't do that today. We will analyse the match and discuss it with all of the players."
