Werder Bremen provided the perfect finishing touch to the Day of the Fans at Weser Stadium as Robin Dutt's team beat Champions League participants Chelsea 3-0 with a strong performance in front of 30,118 spectators. The goals were scored by Eljero Elia, Ludovic Obraniak and Felix Kroos.

Strong first half

The Green-Whites showed good concentration from the beginning and had the better start to the test match highlight of the preparations. Werder were aggressive and went ahead in the 20th minute. John Terry handled a cross from Elia and a spot kick was rewarded. Elia stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty into the lower right corner to push Werder ahead 1-0.

Werder were then lucky in the 36th minute as Fernando Torres blasted a volley from a cross by Azpilicueta but it went off the woodwork. And Werder doubled the advantage 2-0 just 60 seconds later as Clemens Fritz crossed into the box where Obraniak headed home. And the lead was 2-0 at the break.

José Mourinho brought in a number of new players for the re-start, including Didier Drogba, who received a strong applause from the Weser Stadium crowd. Chelsea initially tried to put Bremen under pressure at the start of the second half but the Green-Whites withstood it and didn't allow any really good Chelsea chances. Dutt's men were a bit lucky again in the 69th minute as Cesc Fabregas sent his shot just over the bar on a counter attack.

Neither team would allow much in terms of attack while the spectators provided for a great atmosphere. In the 82nd minute, Drogba played an excellent diagonal pass to Ivanovic, whose cross was just barely cleared to corner by the Werder backline. In the waning minutes, Nils Petersen was fouled in the box for another penalty and Kroos stepped up to convert in the 89th minute for the 3-0 final score.
