It was a hard bit of work for SV Werder but the Green-Whites won their second test match following the Bundesliga season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the amateur side Heeslinger SC of the seventh division Landesliga.
Werder started with a strong line-up but still fell behind 1-0 in the fifth minute. The Green-Whites were lucky to be only one goal down in the 17th minute as a Heeslingen shot went off the post. Werder got the equaliser 1-1 seven minutes later with Zlatko Junuzovic hitting home a shot that was deflected in. Nils Petersen missed a chance to give Werder the lead in the 36th minute as his attempt went wide, leaving the teams deadlocked at the break. Maron Busch, who was subbed in at half-time, scored the game-winning goal to make it 2-1 for Werder in the 52nd minute.
Reactions of the players:
Aaron Hunt: "It was not the performance that we had imagined but Heeslingen also did a good job today. Still, we were able to move around a bit. Of course it would have been nicer for the spectators if we could have scored more goals."
Felix Kroos: "Everything here was superbly organised. Also, it's fun to play with so many spectators on the grounds. Personally, I was mainly happy to have finally played against the younger brother of Philipp Bargfrede. Of course, it's too bad that Philipp missed the game against his home club with an injury."
