Finally! Werder stopped their losing streak! After four test match losses in a row, the Green-Whites finally returned to the winning column with a 6-0 (2-0) victory at FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt Thursday evening at Steigerwald Stadium in Erfurt. Robin Dutt's team played well from the beginning in front of 3,813 spectators and were the deserved winners after goals from Nils Petersen (two scores), Mehmet Ekici, Eljero Elia, Sebastian Prödl and Marko Arnautovic. Cedrick Makiadi shined as assist man, setting up four of the six goals.
Werder's head coach once again used a 4-3-3 system, despite numerous changes. The entire starting line-up from the match against RB Leipzig was replaced by 11 new players. A special appearance was Raphael Wolf finally making his comeback in Werder's goal after missing months out injured. And the Werder keeper had to react straight away in the match as Erfurt's Mijo Tunjic beat the Werder offside trap with a pass to Niklas Wittmann, who was unable to score past Wolf in the eighth minute.

Pressure leads to success
Just like in the most recent test matches, the Green-Whites needed a bit of time before really finding their game. But just like against Leipzig, Werder really were in a rhythm, creating a number of chances with a pressure defence. And Petersen opened the scoring 1-0 in the 18th minute after a fine pass from Makiadi. Ekici increased the lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute - again on an assist from Makiadi. And the Green-Whites led 2-0 at the break. The guests remained the dominant team in the second half with Elia (47th), Prödl (64th), Nils Petersen (66th) and Arnautovic (90th) finishing off the scoring for the highly-deserved 6-0 win over the third division side from Erfurt.
