Playing in summer temperatures of about 26 degrees Centigrade, SV Werder were unable to win their third test match of the preparations, playing to a 1-1 draw against 1860 Munich in front of 1,400 spectators. Aaron Hunt gave the Green-Whites the lead but Robin Dutt's team could not hold it, giving up the equaliser six minutes before the end against the Bundesliga 2 team. The match was overshadowed by the serious injury to Lukas Schmitz, who suffered a broken tarsal in his foot and will likely miss six weeks.
The match began with major bad news as Schmitz was injured during a challenge with an 1860 defender and had to be subbed out after eight minutes for Florian Hartherz. The early substitution did not change anything in Werder's 4-2-3-1 system, in which the Green-Whites applied more pressure but could not use their chances. The match was deadlocked 0-0 at the break.

Late goals
At the start of the second half, Tom Trybull, Niclas Füllkrug, Levent Aycicek and Zlatko Junuzovic replaced Cedrik Makiadi, Mehmet Ekici, Nils Petersen and Marko Arnautovic. As the match went on, it was evident how hard the Werder players had been training of late while the second division side seemed fresher as they are further along in their preparations. Still, Werder were able to take the lead in the 73rd minute as Hunt converted a penalty after Junuzovic was fouled in the box.
But it would not be enough for the third victory in three test matches as Wannenwetsch circled in a free kick six minutes before the final whistle. Shortly before the end, keeper Sebastian Mielitz fended a shot from 12 yards out against the post to save the 1-1 draw for Werder.
"We tried to offset the athletic advantage of 1860, who begin playing next week already, with ball possession. Through keeping the ball a lot, the tempo wasn't that high, which also wasn't too be expected. Despite our heavy legs, we worked hard in the back and defended well. The team implemented the topic of the week very well. The free kick naturally aggravated me but it couldn't be stopped. ‘Miele' played a super match," said Dutt after the contest.
