SV Werder Bremen reached the final of the Tuttur Cup with a strong 2-0 victory Monday night over Turkish top flight side Trabzonspor. The final will take place less than 48 hours later against Werder's Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg. The match-up comes only six and a half weeks after a 1-1 draw in the Bundesliga in the first reunion with former Werder manager Klaus Allofs, who had moved to Wolfsburg shortly before the match. "We are in the final and we will do all we can to win against our friends from Wolfsburg. This is a good test for both teams," said Bremen striker Nils Petersen. The match at Mardan Palace Stadium in Aksu near Antalya will be broadcast live and exclusively on WERDER.TV starting at 2 p.m.
After signing Klaus Allofs as manager, Wolfsburg have since brought in a new head coach in Dieter Hecking from Nuremberg on a contract until 2016. Allofs said Hecking was the "right coach" at the "right time" as he stands for the values represented by Wolfsburg. The new Wolfsburg manager and the new head coach would like to start a new era with the financially-strong club.

Allofs made clear Wolfsburg's financial capabilities 10 days later as the first player he added to the team was Croatian international Ivan Perisic, who came from Borussia Dortmund for 7.5 million euros. In addition, Marco Russ was sent on loan in the winter break to his former club Eintracht Frankfurt. Things are still unclear about Patrick Helmes, who missed the whole first half with a knee ligament injury. Also banged up is Bas Dost as the Dutchman is battling an adductors strain and had to miss the last couple days of training.
Hecking has been preparing for the second half of the season since last Thursday in Belek. The accommodations, the Calista Resort, are about 12 kilometres from Werder's training camp headquarters. One former Werder player approves very much the work of Wolfsburg's new coach. "We did a good job implementing what the coach taught us in the last couple of days. Now we have to fine tune everything and carry it over to the Bundesliga," said Diego on the club's homepage.
The last test match between these teams could prove as a good omen for a Werder win in the final. Bremen won the Volkswagen SuperCup on 20 July 2009 with Per Mertesacker and current captain Clemens Fritz scoring the goals.
